Welcome to the fourth edition of console.log(weekly), my weekly update on my talent programme minor. This week was a week of locking in hard because of some very hard to achieve deadlines set by yours truly.
What I did this week
This week was all about building up to a peer review demo on Friday, planning on showing as much as possible to my colleagues to get their professional opinion on the idea, user experience, infrastructure and more. As of writing this at 4PM on Thursday there is still a lot of work to be done. What is finished is the CMS with some improvements made for security and data safety, the app also works with a some basic AR features allowing the display of images and videos on a surface. What’s left to build before the demo is an onboarding so I can test if users are able to intuitively use the app without help.
The brick wall I ran into into
An issue I encountered was underestimating making a connection to the CMS from the application, I ran into issues with making secure connections from an app, I still haven’t figured this out. In the end I managed to spend half a day on R&D wich I gained nothing from besides what not to do. The goal for next week is definitely to figure this out.
Some feedback on myself
Setting manageable expectations was something that did not go entirely well this week, as my goals where way too extreme an nearly unachievable. The coming demo only threw oil on the fire making it impossible for me to recalculate my expectations. This week was a lot of stress and a lot of work, something I cannot repeat every week.
Next week
During the demo on Friday I want to gather valuable insights, these insights will be used next week to modify aspects of my product,. On Wednesday next week I will be having a demo with the client, this is the next deadline to work towards, so processing Friday’s feedback needs to be done before Wednesday and I plan to spend the rest of the week on the CMS integration.
We’re 2 javascript frameworks away from actually launching this.
